The Oakland A’s baseball team has never hosted an "on-field" wedding until now and the big event happens on Friday, September 16, 2011 at home plate at the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum. Just after batting practice and just before the Oakland A’s take on The Detroit Tigers on "Fireworks Night."  If you know Nancy and Wayne’s "story", you know there is no more perfect location for the wedding and to start their married life together.

Since Independence Day, the 4^th of July is tomorrow, the subject of Independence is a good one.

Someone asked recently: “Does being in a love relationship make you lose your independence?”

Followed by, “Is it possible to achieve bliss without feeling bitter about losing premarital independence?”

It is generally assumed that marriage, clearly a committed relationship, does NOT create freedom, it curtails it. But, the other gains and payoffs can be huge. It all depends on your individual truths, personal values, and feeling of lovematism for one another.

This can get right down to the business of living and the 4^th of the 5 Love Dynamics, the Acclimating Dynamic in interpersonal love relationships. This is often the balancing act of a couple juggling so many things, work or business, kids, family, community, obligations, healthy living, and even getting enough sleep!

If you are in a love relationship and your love bucket is not getting filled, then the lack of fulfillment will shine a spotlight on your loss of independence. The upcoming movie, The Change-Up,  is about two men, Mitch (single) and Dave (married), who wish they had each other’s lives and the tagline is – Who Says Men Can’t Change?

Back on the subject of Independence and the July 4th holiday:  As Oprah said in her last email to me, “Nothing like going out of country to have an even deeper appreciation for our own U.S.A. The Freedom to have options, something we often take for granted, is the most striking to me.

When Chris Rock was last on the show he said, "real wealth is having options". I thought that was pretty profound… [Relationship Riches would agree!]

I know the 4th of July has turned into picnics and fireworks, and barbecue moments. But it’s worthy of a pause, to think about what it really means to have Freedom. And while we’re pausing, think about those who sacrifice to make it so.”

Great things to do on a hot summer day to fill the love bucket… on summer solstice or any long summer day:

• Go for simple. Go together or meet at a local park for a walk. Take it easy walking around, talking, and looking at the surroundings. It can feel pressure-free. You don’t have to worry about impressing her with the right choice of restaurant  or wooing her or being superman. Casual and low-key can make summer very cool.
• BBQ. There’s nothing like a man who knows how to use a grill. Can you say “cookout”? Go together to the market and pick out items to make together. It can be fun and sexy to you lady in the kitchen and really enjoyable to make a meal together. More pleasure to follow!  (Steve Champagne is a grilling hero!)
• Check out an outdoor concert. There can be easy going, really fun and romantic. Being outdoors is cool and the music fills in the awkward lulls in conversation.
• Are you near water? Is there a ferry ride in your future? Being on the water can be fun and romantic. Rent a sailboat for the day. Or get some jetskis. Wet is fun and cool!
• Hang out in her backyard and cool off with a bucket of water balloons and have a water balloon fight. Fun, and seeing her all wet and in a T-shirt — really hot.
• What’s summer without baseball? If you gal likes the sport, bring her along. If she loves, it, get season’s tickets!
• Outdoor sports can be really sexy especially if you lady is somewhat athletic. Seeing a woman get sweaty in front of you can be exhilarating. Get a group together to play soccer or even croquet or better yet, swim, surf, or waterski! Do something sporty gets the testosterone flowing and the love biochemicals glowing!
• Backyard movies, picnic style can be fun to watch a movie outdoors. If you don’t mind your laptop getting a little sand, then pack up some snacks, and a blanket and head for the beach at dusk. Changing your routine and mixing things up feels more special than just sitting on the sofa with a DVD and it is intimate.

If your goal is to attract an incredible partner, spouse, and life mate, Darren Hardy suggests asking yourself this question first: “Who do I need to become?”

Jim Rohn said, “If you want to have more (goals) you have to become more… Success is something you attract by the person you have become.”

In this case, the success goal is to attract the kind of woman or man you want in your life.

My friend John Socratous posted recently in Facebook:
 
“A boy spends his time finding a girl to sleep with. A man spends his time looking for a woman worth waking up to for a lifetime. “

That is when a guy has made a decision to go from DFS to DFL and goes through the Shift. [see urban dictionary for definitions DFS, DFL, The Shift and even love bucket list] Unless you are really ready to attract a life partner, you probably won’t be interested in the level of detail you need focus on to imagine and commit the time and get clear on paper. It is an exercise worth your highest attention.

Darren Hardy said that when he understood the idea of “Who do I need to become?” it revolutionized his life and personal growth.

Inside Darren’s book, The Compound Effect, in the chapters: How Goal Setting Actually Works: The Mystery Secret ‘Revealed’ followed by Who You Have To Become, he wrote about attracting the woman of his dreams:

“When I was single and ready to find my mate and get married, I made a long list of traits I desired in the perfect woman (for me). I filled more than forty pages of a journal, front and back, describing her in great detail – her personality, character, her attributes, attitudes, and philosophies about life, even what kind of family and she came from it, including culture and physical make up, down to the texture of her hair. I wrote in depth what our life would be like and what we’d do together. If I had then asked, “What to have to do to find and get this girl?” I might still be on that butterfly chase.

“Instead I looked back at the list and considered whether or not I embodied the same attributes myself.

· Did I have the very qualities I was expecting in her?

· I asked myself, what kind of man is woman like this be looking for?

· Who do I need to become to be attractive to a woman of this substance?

“I filled forty more pages describing all the attributes, qualities, behaviors, attitudes, and characteristics I needed to become myself. Then I went to work on becoming an each those qualities. Guess what? It worked! As if she were peeled off the pages of my journal and appeared in front of me my wife, Georgia, is exactly what I described and ask for, in almost eerie detail. The key was my getting clear on who I’d have to be to attract and keep a woman of her quality, and then doing the work to achieve that.”

This concept  of “Who do I need to become to be attractive to a woman of this substance?” applies to almost any goal in your life not just attracting a life mate.

Take some time today to make a list of the most important goals in your life. If you’re not ready to make the LOVE BUCKET LIST to attract a life partner, start with goals in other aspects of your life. This idea is to “Go for whole-life success – to create harmony in all aspects of your life: relationships and lifestyle areas such as business, finance, health, well-being, spirituality, and family. Before the Love Bucket: Anthony Hopkins, born 1937, is a Welsh actor of film, stage and television. Knighted in 1993, Sir Philip Anthony Hopkins, he is considered to be one of the greatest living actors. Hopkins is perhaps best known for his portrayal of cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter in movie The Silence of the Lambs. It was his role as Hannibal Lecter that he received the Academy Award for Best Actor.

Stella was an antiques dealer and Sir Anthony met her one day when he walked into her shop in Pacific Palisades, California. They married in 2003.

Love Bucket at The Training Event: On May 14^th, Bill Dorfman and Anthony Hopkins participated in the James Malinchak event in Los Angeles. Sir Anthony was there to represent the LEAP Foundation to gather grants for needy and deserving children to attend leadership learning camps.

Sir Anthony was on stage in a light grey suit, white open collar shirt, and black ankle boots. He sat on stage on the bar stool height chair which showed just above his boots a pair or matching bright red socks.

Sir Anthony spoke of his childhood and that those traces of demeaning experiences affected his self-esteem. Here are a few of Anthony Hopkins “sound bites” :
To be successful requires massive discipline. The progress to get an acting job is brutal and the rejection is tough. Real freedom is to ‘not care’ what other people think. Don’t waste your time trying to make an impression. Show up, say your lines, hit the mark. Never laugh at or smear others; support other people’s efforts and their dreams. Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid. Your own inadequacies can be your greatest gifts. Believe in the vision you have for your life and you can overcome.

Then, Sir Anthony stood up. The red socks disappeared.

Anthony Hopkins proceeded to ‘Fill The Love Bucket®’ of his beautiful wife, Stella, with a heart-felt tribute.

Sir Hopkins motioned to the back of the room where Stella was quietly sitting wearing a beautiful black hat. His gratitude and love for Stella shone through his words, “I want to give a tribute to MY Stella.” Sir Anthony shared that Lady Hopkins was a motivating force in his life. She encouraged him to paint and those painting were shown at their private wedding ceremony in Malibu. She inspired him to paint over 75 paintings and some where given to charities to be used for donations.

Sir Hopkins continued with his tribute to Stella and spoke of how she inspired him to compose music. He said that he has concerts in July in Birmingham and Cardiff where he will present his original classical music. This 73-year old man filled the love bucket of his wife in a public forum recognizing her contribution to his life and how she supports him and his talent.

After the talk, photos were taken, with Anthony Hopkins the main attraction. I took a moment to speak with Stella. I said, “That tribute surely filled your love bucket!” Stella put her hand on her heart and replied, “Wasn’t that beautiful? I was so touched by his words.” It doesn’t matter if you are married to a famous celebrity and always in the public eye. The gift of filling the love bucket, in this case, with the Recognition Ring of Desire works no matter if you are unknown or a big celebrity.

There are three aspects of the Recognition Ring of Desire. Sir Anthony recognized Stella’s actions in how she inspires, contributes, motivates, encourages and helps an already great man become a better version of himself.
